About Round Rock

Located about 20 miles north of Downtown Austin, Round Rock is a great place for students to explore, learn, and live. Round Rock is a city in the state of Texas with the Greater Austin, Texas metropolitan area and Williamson County. The city straddles both sides of the Balcones Escarpment, a fault line in which the areas roughly east of IH-35 are flat and characterized by having black, fertile soils of the Blackland Prairie, and the west side of the Escarpment which consists mostly of hills and higher elevations. Students can find ample amounts of college apartments sprinkler throughout the city.


In 2008, Money magazine named Round Rock as the seventh-best American small city in which to live. Round Rock was the only Texas city to make the Top 10. In a CNN article from 2009, Round Rock was listed as the second-fastest growing city in the country. These two factors make it the perfect reason to live in Round Rock, Texas.


Round Rock is perhaps best known as the international headquarters of Dell. Students can also live near and visit the Premium Outlets Mall, IKEA, and numerous other retail stores and restaurants. Round Rock is the self-proclaimed “Sports Capital of Texas.” The city’s Old Settlers Park offers a professionally designed disc golf course, cricket, twenty-field baseball complex, five-field softball complex, and seven soccer facilities in addition to the Rockin’ River Family Aquatic Center.


There are four universities and colleges in Round Rock. Students can find convenient off campus student apartments near the Texas State University - Round Rock Campus, Texas A&M Health Science Center - Round Rock, Austin Community College, and the School of Nursing at Texas State University.
