A : College Station is a safe place to run. Wolf Pen Creek Park has a good trail. I would check that one out. There are always people running around campus as well, so that's another option.

Terrible Management
By: Joy Johnson on March 17, 2017
This week I realized how badly The Retreat at College Station, under Landmark Properties, is to their residents. Several of us have been in dispute over our utility bills. In my case, I returned to the cottage I rent after being away for over a month to find that my heat had been turned on high and left running 24/7. It seems the property had let people in to take out the thermostat. I immediately notified Brightan, a manager at the leasing office, of the issue and I was given full assurance that my bill would be taken care of as long as I could show that my previous bills were significantly smaller. As soon as I saw my bill was over $200 when I usually pay about $30 dollars I gave them the evidence they needed. Worse yet my next bill was over $100 dollars because the heat had been left running on high over two billing cycles. That makes the total over $300. They decide to credit my rent $100 as full compensation. Of course, I let them know that this is unacceptable and unfair. Christine who had been handling my case suddenly stops working at the Retreat. Today I find that they simply took the bill amount from my retreat account which I still had money on. This with no notice at all. Naïvely I had believed The Retreat at College Station / Landmark Properties would do right by me. I'm left trying to figure out where to come up with the extra money to pay the STILL outstanding electricity bill with SimpleBills, their third party vendor, and pay rent in a few weeks. This incident is a series of misfortune that I have had to deal with since moving in. From mold, termites, broken heating in winter time, and more. I'm usually not one to complain online but people need to know what they are getting into with this place. I would hate for others to be victimized.

Do not sign a lease here! I signed a lease back in March, and in the summer I found out that I wouldn't be able to go back to school. With the "new management" that took over, they were extremely unhelpful and rude. I paid all of the fees I needed to pay, racking up into hundreds of dollars and found someone to take over my lease. I DO NOT HAVE A LEASE WITH THEM ANYMORE AND I NEVER MOVED INTO THE APARTMENT. I now find out that I have a debt collector in Georgia coming after me for a $100 fine that Gateway issued in my name for the 'damages and cleaning that was needed when you moved out'. Again, I NEVER MOVED IN. I am a 19 year old college student and this 'debt' is going to remain on my record. My lawyer is currently speaking with the agency to get me out of this insane fine. Gateway is harassing, they are rude, they are unhelpful. I would never recommend this apartment complex to anyone.

New Management
By: Manager The Rail on August 3, 2016
“FROM THE RAIL MANAGEMENT: The Rail underwent a large-scale renovation over the last year, which included upgrading amenities, common areas and the interiors of our spacious apartments. With so many changes happening the property experienced some growing pains during this time. Our new management team here to ensure that you have a great experience as a resident of The Rail community. We’re proud to now have one of the best pools in College Station and a huge clubhouse for your enjoyment! The apartments have been completely updated and look fantastic. We think your friends and family will be quite impressed when they come to visit. We also have new specials on our apartments for the 2016-2017 year!! Please contact us so we can show you around our beautiful property: | 979.693.7656”

Avoid if at all possible
By: Andrew Marchus on January 8, 2016
I'll start with the positives: good location, relatively affordable, staff was generally friendly (while I was a resident), new paint and water heater installed while I was there. Now the negatives: I was promised an "upgraded fixtures" apartment but never saw any evidence of nicer fixtures anywhere in the apartment. There were regularly people being very loud at the pool well after hours (after midnight during the week, well into the early morning on the weekend) and the windows of my apartment did very little to dampen the noise. The staff never made any attempt to deal with the issue. I'm a bit of a neat freak, which made the two separate bug infestations I experience in one year very disconcerting. I also know that another apartment in the complex had an issue with bed bugs but management never notified the other tenants. There were a number of when someone from the complex entered my apartment without written notice and without my consent. I assumed it was for maintenance, but I never received any communication from the management explaining it. I had several packages go missing, all of which the carriers said they delivered to the front office. And finally, when I moved out, management charged me $160 for "damages". These "damages" were failing to clean the inside of the oven, adding one small stain to an already stained carpet, and damage to the front door mat they provided caused by the flooding in front of my apartment. When I tried to negotiate with them, I never received any response until they sent the issue to a debt collector. If you can live with all of that, feel free to choose to live at Country Place Apartments. The truth is, they aren't even the worst complex on the street, but there are better options. There are plenty of cheap rent houses in the area that are almost as affordable and just as convenient. Save yourself the hassle and live anywhere else.

DO NOT LIVE AT UNIVERSITY TRAILS. University Trails looks great when you tour it but when you move in it is a completely different story. We were all promised very nice furniture and clean apartments (as they should be cleaned). None of that was followed through with though. On move in day, my apartment was extremely dirty and disgusting and the furniture looked like it was actually pulled out of a dumpster. We argued with management for seven hours on move in day trying to get our apartment cleaned and in livable condition. Basically everyone moving in was pissed. A couple more examples of other apartments: -Crappy old furniture that had an old bra in it (obviously the room was not cleaned) -Door completely broken down when going to move in, also had to clean the apartment for six hours -Rat nest found in apartment, people got out of their lease. The staff is mostly friendly but pretty unhelpful, and maintenance is very slow and comes in at anytime. You could be sleeping and they can barge in your room. Overall this is a horrible place to live with terrible management. LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE.

This is currently my third year living here and it's nice. It has everything I wanted in an apartment. It's a good location at a good price.
